La industria cosmética continúa trabajando en el desarrollo de ensayos de seguridad alternativos para todos los ingredientes.
Recientemente, bajo el 7º Programa Marco de la Unión Europea,Colipa (The European Cosmetics Association) se ha comprometido a co-financiar junto con la Comisión Europea uno de los mayores programas de investigación ydesarrollo de ensayos alternativos por un importe de 50 millonesde euros.
Algunos datos:
Directiva Europea de cosméticos (76/768/EEC): Cada producto puesto en el mercado debe haber pasado por una evaluación deseguridad para la salud humana, mediante métodos científicamente reconocidos y aceptados por los legisladores.
La 7ª Modificación (Directiva 2003/15/EC) introduce prohibición progresiva de los ensayos en animales en productos cosméticos y sus ingredientes.

The European Partnership on Alternative Approaches toAnimal Testing (EPAA) was launched in November 2005 byEuropean Commission Vice President Günter Verheugenand Science & Research Commissioner Janez Potočniktogether with the European industry. At a conference inBrussels today both industry and the Commission haveexpressed their strong wish to strengthen thisunprecedented collaboration to reduce animal testing asmuch as possible to avoid unnecessary suffering for animals(the 3Rs Approach) wherever possible.
